What is PBS?
Missouri School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support, known as PBS or PBIS, is a proactive, team-based framework for creating and sustaining safe and effective schools. Emphasis is placed on prevention of problem behaviors, development of appropriate social skills, and the use of data-based problem solving to identify student needs and improve school practices. PBS has eight essential components:
Consistency is the key to the PBS framework. Students are introduced to the expectations the first few days of school, and while different settings or staff may have rules that vary slightly, the basic expectations remain the same in all locations at all times. Students who struggle with expectations receive remediation, while those who consistently follow them, are recognized for their positive behavior. Ultimately, the staff at Cuba Elementary work within the PBS model to create a positive school environment where students demonstrate kindness, citizenship, and are respectful, responsible and reliable.
